VISION
Cocoa is a highly priority plantation commodity in Indonesia. The
cocoa plantation still has potential for further development by
increasing the production and quality to sustain national economic
development. Accordingly it should be supported by research and
development in cocoa plantation with appropriately competence human
resources.
MISSION
Accordingly the main missions of the center are to develop
appropriate technology cocoa production and post harvest handling and
to develop appropriate method for education, training and extension for
farmers to sustain cocoa plantation.
- To develop technology in cocoa production, and plantation production as a cocoa agro industrial system.
- To develop technology for cocoa postharvest handling including
fermentation, drying, packaging and storage for quality improvement of
cocoa.
- To develop methods for extension education and training for government office in cocoa plantation.
- To develop methods for farmer training for technology adoption in cocoa production and postharvest handling.
- To develop an integrated system in cocoa production and
postharvest handling, related plantation institutions, and marketing
chain to sustain cocoa plantation and social economic of the small
holder farmers.

The main expertise and competencies of the Center are technology and
knowledge on cocoa agronomy, production, and postharvest, methods on
training, extension and education for farmers and related government

EXPERIENCES IN COCOA RESEARCH, EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Instiper has been involved in cocoa related activities since 1970
especially in the cocoa plantation development in Yogyakarta and
Central Java. During the years 1970 � 1990 Instiper was authorized by
the local government to manage cocoa plantation in Pemalang the
northern part of Central Java. Accordingly research and education
experiences are:
- Technology development and application of side grafting for cocoa plantation renovation.
- Development of cocoa market chain in Gunung Kidul Yogyakarta.
- Development fermentation and drying of cocoa beans.
- Some student researches in cocoa production, fermentation and drying.
- Farmer organization for cocoa plantation development.
